The Mark V* tank was created for one purpose - its extra length. For all its advances and improvements over the Mark IV, the new Mark V tank that began to enter British service in the late Spring of 1918 had one similarity. At 26 feet 5 inches or 8.06m, it wasn't any longer than the Mark IV, which meant its trench crossing ability was no better.
